After melting the butter, peanut butter, and marshmallow, mix in the crispy cereal and press the crispy mixture on top of the cheerio layer. Cool the cheerio layer in the refrigerator while you work on the second layer.įor the second layer you will need 3 cups of rice crispy cereal, a tablespoon of butter, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and 3 cups of marshmallows. After melting the butter, applesauce, and marshmallows you mix in the cheerios and push the mixture into a wax paper lined 8×8 dish. For this layer you will need 2 cups of apple cinnamon cheerios, 2 cups of marshmallows, a tablespoon of applesauce, and a tablespoon of butter. I started with making what would eventually be my top layer of the crispy bars, the cinnamon apple cheerio crispy layer. These bars have a layer of peanut butter flavored rice crispy treat, a layer of cinnamon apple cheerio crispy treat, and can be topped with slices of apples drizzled with caramel. So I came up with apple peanut butter crispy bars. I wanted to come up with a crispy treat recipe that could include some of my favorite flavors associated fall apples, peanut butter, and caramel. After making the spiced applesauce our house was filled with my favorite aroma of spices and I was inspired to create more apple treats. Once we were home, I got to work in the kitchen whipping up a couple of batches of my homemade caramel applesauce as well as my spiced applesauce. Like always we went a little overboard and picked a crazy amount of apples. We couldn’t get enough of them.Fall is in full swing at our current location and to celebrate all the wonderfulness that come along with this time of the year we used one my husbands day of leave to go apple picking. I was expecting them to be good, but they were better than my expectation. We loved Rice Krispie Treats with Cheerios. You can store it at room temperature, just make sure it remains covered. This recipe will keep for up to a week before it gets too hard. Let sit for 30 minutes to allow it to harden. Press the Cheerios mixture into your 9 X 13 pan. If you wait too long, it will be super hard to mix. If you mix in the chocolate chips too soon, they will melt, and you’ll be left with mixed in chocolate, which is also good, so not a terrible mistake. Then, pour in the chocolate chips and mix in. You want the mixture to cool just slightly. Once the Cheerios are fully covered in the Peanut Butter, Marshmallow mixture, let it sit for 30 seconds to 1 minute. I have also done it this way, and it works. Another thing you can do is put the Cheerios in a big bowl and pour the marshmallow mixture over top of it and stir it in. The mixture will slowly get hard to stir, but just move as fast as you can before it gets too hard. Stir in the Creamy Peanut Butter until it’s melted and smooth. Be careful because they can be easy to burn. I feel like you can’t really go wrong.) Constantly stir the marshmallows until they are completely melted. ( I only had big marshmallows on hand that needed to be used, so I eyeballed how much I wanted/needed in the recipe. Once butter has completely melted, slowly add in marshmallows. They keep really well, and everybody loves them. These are great for an after school snack, or a dessert for the kids lunches. They turned out super yummy and were super easy to make with my kids. We made ours slightly different with a little peanut butter and chocolate chips. Plus, I’ve seen other people do it before. I love Cheerios more than Rice Krispies, so I thought I’d give it a try. I’m not a huge fan of Rice Krispie treats unless they are homemade and fresh. I just like to have a somewhat “healthy” cereal on hand for those I-don’t-want-to-cook-and-what-is-quick-to-eat nights. We always have them on hand, and they don’t go as fast as I’d like. I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again.
